Eden Vigil mobilizes, trains, and professionally supports environmental missionaries. In other words, Eden Vigil is not a sending agency in itself, but helps place environmental missionaries with established agencies like Christar and others. The process looks like this:
- Eden Vigil helps a new generation of environmentally-minded believers, who still feel the pull of the Great Commission, consider a new category of cross-cultural ministry: environmental missions. Do you care about the unevangelized lost AND you care about God’s devastated creation? Or to put it another way: Do you care about how environmental degradation harms those for whom Jesus died? Eden Vigil assures you that there is a way to minister cross-culturally that both plants churches AND plants trees!
- Eden Vigil helps facilitate the training that will produce an effective environmental missionary. Professional graduates can acquire the skills for cross-cultural ministry. Bible college and seminary graduates can acquire the skills to run an effective environmental development project. Both groups will need to learn how to integrate traditional missions and creation care.
- Excited and trained, but now where to go serve? Eden Vigil maintains the Agabus Projectâ„ , a database of environmental profiles of the world’s people groups, from which Eden Vigil can advise environmental missionaries on how they can devise the best church-planting/creation care project for their chosen people group.
- Excited and trained, but now with whom to go serve? Eden Vigil’s founders are Christar missionaries who served for over fifteen years in North India and Pakistan. Christar itself has a century’s worth of experience in preaching the gospel and establishing churches primarily among least-reached Buddhists, East Asians, Hindus, and Muslims. While Christar is Eden Vigil’s main sending partner (and parent organization), Eden Vigil also helps place environmental missionaries with other agencies and amongst other people groups.
